The Junior League of Syracuse is recycling eclipse glasses for children in underserved communities

The league will send all donations to Eclipse Glasses USA

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Junior League of Syracuse Inc., a nonprofit organization of women committed to improving the community, is collecting used eclipse glasses for kids in underserved communities globally. The league is seeking glasses that are relatively unscathed, meaning they have no scratches, punctures, tears or any other form of damage that might compromise the protective quality of the glasses.

For any individuals, organizations or businesses interested in donating their eclipse glasses, they can be dropped off at the CNY Philanthropy Center at 431 E Fayette St. in Syracuse during the week from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Glasses can also be mailed to the Philanthropy Center by addressing “The Junior League of Syracuse” and sending to 431 E Fayette St. Syracuse, NY 13202. The league will be collecting glasses through May 31, 2024.

All glasses collected will be sent to Eclipse Glasses USA who will then distribute them to underserved communities in areas where partial and/or full eclipses will take place in the near future. The founders of Eclipse Glasses USA, Roger and Alyssa, began their journey as educators, deeply inspired by the profound impact the 2017 Great American Eclipse had on their students. Their mission is to ensure that children, students and everyone interested can safely experience the wonder of solar eclipses.

“This program is designed to ensure that as many people as possible, especially school children in countries with limited resources, can safely experience the wonder of a solar eclipse,” officials from Eclipse Glasses USA said in an online statement.
